Thinking locally, acting locally, thinking globally and acting globally The Book of Swamp
Hello and good day to you. You may find it hard to believe, but this issue marks half a year of this propaganda tool you’re reading. I’m not quite sure how it made it. It’s gone through some subtle growing pains since then, with graphics and layouts and working out how much damn space you need to leave so the photocopier doesn’t do away with the top line of everything you do. Now that it would finally seem to be settled, I’m contemplating going and making a huge change – the name. Coming up with the name Book of Swamp seemed so funny at the time that it actually spurred me into starting this thing, so it has it’s definite upside. “Swampy” took part in a tunnel protest intended to prevent the building of a second runway at Manchester International Airport. What I didn’t consider at the time though, were two points: 1) That Daniel “Swampy” Hooper, would, if I distributed the sheet properly, eventually come across it, and what an embarrassing night in the pub that would be. 2) That it would limit the kind of people who might be interested in it, by instantly associating everything in it with their previous perception of someone the media found and displayed to be a novelty. "They [the media] want to know more about where we shit than about what we are protesting about." Nobody, Daniel included, wants to claim they represent this movement. So I am going to change the name to something similar, but not change the layout, so it’s not so confusing. From next month this newsletter will be called The Book of Stomp, unless someone throws me a better suggestion (as in, Stomp out injustice – not those people crashing around with binlids. I’ll give it an obvious graphic). I won’t be the first person to shed myself of the name Swamp (see over). Thanks y’all. "We will remain faceless because we refuse the spectacle of celebrity, because we are everyone, because the carnival beckons, because the world is upside down, because we are everywhere. By wearing masks we show that who we are is not as important as what we want, and what we want is everything for everyone."

Thinking locally, acting locally, thinking globally and acting globally The Book of Swamp
If we’re honest, one of the main reasons for starting one of these newsletters is the opportunity to come up with incredibly corny headlines. So it was regretful that most of last month’s paper copies had the headlines of the “Super”market special on the back chopped off the top. Allow me to relay them to you: The carrier bag piece carried the name “That’s Asda waste”, and the Waitroes story was entitled… “Waitblows”. Now that that’s out of the way – yes that’s right, paper copy, suggesting another kind of copy. There’s now an online home for the newsletter that will make it a lot easier to nick the content, and read if you can’t get out to find one. It is at http://thebookofswamp.livejournal.com. And whilst we’re on the subject, if you weren’t aware, MySpace is owned by Rupert “spoof news of the world” Murdoch, so boycott the bastard place and all its stupid photos.
